The 2019-2020 Munro Beattie lecture has been postponed due to the COVID-19 situation in the Ottawa region. The safety of our community is our first priority and we have reached a point where it is advisable to cancel or postpone large events like the Munro Beattie lecture. The lecture will be rescheduled for the fall of 2020. The new date will be released once it has been finalized.

The Department of English and the Dean of FASS are delighted to announce that the 2019-2020 Munro Beattie lecture will be delivered by the renowned Canadian graphic novelist who publishes under the name of Seth. Guided by images from his work, Seth’s talk will offer an overview of his career so far, from his childhood interest in comics, the work of the cartoonists who influenced him, to his current and future projects.

This free public lecture will be followed by a reception and book signing.

The Authors

Seth

Seth’s cartoons have appeared in the New York Times Magazine, McSweeneys Quarterly, and on the cover of The New Yorker. He is the creator of the comic book series Palookaville. Other books include It’s a Good Life if You Don’t Weaken (1996), The Great Northern Brotherhood of Canadian Cartoonists (2011). His most recent book, Clyde Fans: A Picure Novel (2019) has been hailed by the New York Times as “a masterwork.”
