THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT with Kateri Akiwenzie-Damm, Kris Bertin and Danielle McLaughlin

Fiercely told, sharply described, bitterly funny, and unexpectedly moving, Kris Bertin’s stories have reasserted to me just how powerful short fiction can be.

Join us in our exploration of the art of the short story and find out just how far into another life a few well-written pages can take you.

The Stone Collection by Kateri Akiwenzie-Damm, an Anishnaabe writer, poet and publisher from the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation, is “generous, funny and dark,” according to Eden Robinson. It "doesn’t pull its emotional punches but it leavens its grim truths with bright humour and earthy lust.”

Bad Things Happen, the debut collection from Halifax’s Kris Bertin was greeted with rave reviews from cost to coast. David Adams Richards says "Kris Bertin’s stories are a revelation, a triumph — each stamped with the mark of a new and rising genius.”

Dinosaurs on Other Planets by Cork’s Danielle McLaughlin, includes two stories published in The New Yorker and was heralded by The Irish Examiner as "a remarkable first collection from a distinctive and extremely gifted writer on the brink of major recognition.”
