Rapidly, we approach the final phase of the extensions of man–the technological simulation of consciousness, when the creative process of knowing will be collectively and corporately extended to the whole of human society, much as we have already extended our senses and our nerves by the various media.
McLuhan is a visionary on so many levels including his prophetic notions of the relationship between media and consciousness. Are his ideas in this regard, so seldom examined, still relevant today?

B.W. Powe is widely regarded as one of the most original and unclassifiable authors in Canadian writing. His works include The Solitary Outlaw, A Tremendous Canada of Light, Outage and The Unsaid Passing, a ReLit Prize finalist. He is also the founder of McLuhan Initiative for the Study of Literacies at York University.
The evening concludes with the world-premiere of Obsolescence Is The Beginning: The Marshall McLuhan Concerto, composed, orchestrated and programmed by Mike Dubue. Three Marshall McLuhan quotes on the theme of Conciousness Through The Advancement Of Technology interpreted and realized as three continuous movements of music for solo cello with vibraphone and eight synthesizers in sorround sound. Mike Dubue is a composer, producer and musician based in Ottawa. Primarily a film composer, Mike can also be found making pop music with HILOTRONS, The Empiricals and Socalled.
