About the Book
Illegal Markets, Violence, and Inequality: Evidence from a Brazilian Metropolis proposes an analysis of contemporary drug markets in Recife, Brazil’s most violent metropolitan area. Building on extensive fieldwork and interviews, it offers insights into the workings of drug markets and into the reasons why some of them are violent, and others not.
About the Authors
Jean Daudelin is an Associate Professor in the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs. His current research focuses on property rights and conflict, on Brazilian foreign policy and international relations in the Americas, and on crime and violence in Latin America. José Luiz Ratton is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Centre for the Study of Crime and Public Security, at the Federal University of Pernambuco, in Recife, Brazil.
