Israel in the 21st Century with David Berlin and Hirsh Goodman

The Moral Lives of Israelis is a deeply courageous personal story. But more than that, it invites us to take another look at worn-out solutions to this seemingly intractable conflict. It is a wonderful addition to the canon of writings on the Middle East.

The Rev. Dr. Bill Phipps, moderator, United Church of Canada, 1997–2000

As change sweeps the Middle East, we examine Israel’s history and imagine its future through the eyes of David Berlin, Israeli-born journalist and co-founder of Walrus Magazine and Hirsh Goodman, Senior Research Associate at The Institute for National Security Studies at Tel Aviv University.

The fundamental question that floats over every page of David Berlin’s book, The Moral Lives of Israelis, is with so many missteps and in a region deeply fraught with antagonism and misunderstanding, how can Israel move forward?

Hirsh Goodman, a renowned Israeli journalist and security expert, is the author of The Anatomy of Israel’s Survival, which presents a “strategic state of the nation” tour to evenhandedly assess the issues facing the country today, ultimately suggesting that the “essential question” is no longer “Will Israel survive?” but “What kind of country will it be?”

Hirsh Goodman’s appearance made possible by support from the Embassy of Israel.
